Sebastian Yarrick was born into a small land owning family, outside of Neverwinter.
The second of three children (older brother, younger sister), he received a satisfactory education and it was made clear that he would not inherit. Once Sebastian came of age, he joined the army as a common soldier, and later advanced to corporal through battlefield promotion.
While in a particularly pitched battle, Yarrick and six men became separated from the main force. It was unknown to Yarrick and his comrades that their foes on the battlefield that day were adherents to Bane the Black Lord. In addition to standard troops, there were zealous cultists marauding the field, looking for human materials for their dreaded rituals. These cultists captured Yarrick and his men. Sebastian watched as three of his friends were skinned alive. A knife was at Yarrick’s chest, when a squad of cavalry rode over the top of the gully and mauled the cultists.
Sebastian finished the remaining seven weeks that remained in his military service contract and then began a novitiate with an order following Helm in Helm’s Hold. Sebastian finished this period of instruction, and swore his oaths to Helm. Sebastian has made it his personal duty to avenge his comrades, he seeks to root out and thwart followers of the Black Lord and his servants.
Sebastian returned to Neverwinter in order to visit his family after his novitiate. He stayed on in Neverwinter in order to investigate possible cult activities, study at the library, and acquire money through adventuring in order to tithe.
