Smippeth was born in the hidden gnomish settlement or Forhorn. When she was a little kid, all she knew was about arandur and mining and trading. After all, her parents were miners and Forhorn lies on a massive arandur vein, unknown to humans and merchants.
Arandur is extracted from the mines, smelted and forged into bars, and then sold to merchants inthe little town of Whitehorn by gnomes and dwarves pretending to be from isolated miner towns in the White Peaks. No human has ever seen or heard of Forhorn.
Smippeth was a curious child. She knew there was more to life than mining and being hidden from humans and she wanted to see the world. When she was old enough, she started following the gnomes into the town of Whitehorn. During one of the travels from Forhorn to Whitehorn, she and another gnome were attacked by a giant eagle. Her friend did not survive the attack and she was severely injured when someone came to her rescue. It was a powerful and mysterious Sage Druid, who was living mostly hidden in the woods, protecting the nature and communicating with the animals. He took the little gnome to his shelter and cured her, and, after spending a few days with the Druid, Smippeth found her calling. She had to learn how to become a Druid.
He trained her, gave her the skills and taught her how to master the Druid powers. But his master was living in a forest and Smippeth wanted to know more. She set out to travel to nearby cities to gather all the information, history and lore that she could. She became obsessed with Silvanus, the Forest Father, the God of Nature. She wanted to unlock the power of wild nature. SIlvanus was able to control animals and forest creatures but he was wild and unpredictable. He didn’t care about civilization but he cared greatly for maintaining a balance between growth and decay, water and drought, fire and ice — the natural cycle of life. Unlocking this mystery was worth anything to her, even the price of civilization.
To survive, she started traveling as a Druid-for-hire in Faerun. One day she was captured by goblins, they ambushed her in the woods and there were so many that she couldn’t fight all of them. She escaped by pure luck, running away as fast as she possibly could. This life-or-death situation forced her to realize that, although smart and very skilled, she can’t be alone because she is not very hearthy. She started traveling towards the Sword Coast with a group of merchants that was going to sell supplies in Neverwinter. Along the way they made a few stops in smaller and bigger towns, and Smippeth had the chance to talk to people, in the hope to find friends and possibly adventure companions. But she was really disappointed to find out that many people are not as book-smart as she is.
She finally arrived in Neverwinter, and here she was determined to obtain gold and knowledge.
She is a talker, sometimes to her own detriment and is occasionally less stealthy than such a small creature should be.
